Bulgarian Lev. The first coins and banknotes were issued at the end of the nineteenth century. The 2nd World War made adjustments to the countrys economy. Occupied Bulgaria exchanged the national lev for the Reichsmark at a rate of 33.0:1. Liberated by the Soviet troops, Bulgaria changed its money again, but this time to the Soviet ruble (15:1). After the end of World War II, within two to three years, the exchange rate of the lev against the dollar rose to the level of 120.00-150.00 leva per dollar. The population did not have the opportunity to freely exchange money, even at such a rate.
