The Djibouti Franc is the national currency and fiat (fiduciary) money of the Republic of Djibouti, a state in East Africa. The change of French Somalilands name in 1967 to the French Territory of Afar and Issas was reflected on both the territorys coins and banknotes. In 1971 and 1973, the franc was revalued against the US dollar, first to 197.466 per dollar, then to 177.721 dollars, and the rate has remained the same ever since. Further changes in coin and banknote design followed independence in 1977.
