The Seychelles established the ...rupee as its national currency in 1914, when it was still a British colony. The country also accepted currency from its neighbor, the Mauritian rupee. The British Board of Commissioners of Monetary Affairs continued to issue notes in 1918, 1928 and 1951. In circulation there are banknotes of 10, 25, 50, 100 and 500 rupees of various years of issue. Banknotes of the previous issues of 1983 and 1989 are legal tender, but are extremely rare.
