History reference:
Kwanza is the official Angolan currency. The Angolan kwanza has the international designation AOA, and the designation Kzr is accepted within the country. This Angolan currency has been in effect sin...ce 2000, when the denomination of banknotes took place. The name of the currency of Angola comes from the name of the main river. During the entire existence of the monetary life of Angola, the kwanza was reborn several times. The first version of the kwanza was released in 1977, replacing the previous escudo at a ratio of 1:1. The first kwanza lived until 1990 and then was replaced by a new kwanza. But local residents could not sufficiently exchange old money for new ones, but they could convert money into government debt obligations.
