History reference:
The Burundian franc BIF is the national currency of Burundi. During the German colonial period, the rupee of German East Africa was in use in Burundi. After the capture of Burundi by Belgian troops i...n 1916, first unofficially, and after 1919, the Belgian Congo franc was officially introduced into money circulation. In 1960, this currency was withdrawn from use in Rwanda and Burundi and the Rwandan and Burundian franc was introduced instead. The Mozambican metical has been the national currency and money of the Republic of Mozambique since 1980, after gaining independence from Portugal in 1875.
