The Bahamian dollar replaced the Bahamian pound, which was equal to the British pound sterling, divided into 20 shillings or 240 pence, at a ratio of 1 dollar = 7 shillings (1 dollar = 0.35 pounds) in 1966. At the same time, a transition was made to the decimal system - the Bahamian dollar began to equal 100 cents. During the transition to a new currency, three-dollar bills and coins of fifteen cents were introduced, since three dollars are approximately equal to one pound, and fifteen cents - 1 shilling, which was convenient during the transition period.
