History reference:
The pula is the currency of Botswana. Translated from the Tswana language, its name means "let it rain", and the greeting and motto of the state also sounds. After gaining independence from Great Bri...tain in 1966, Botswana was a member of monetary unions: first in the sterling zone, and since 1972 in the rand zone, but the country did not have its own currency. On September 6, 1974, it was announced the imminent withdrawal of the state from the monetary union with South Africa and the beginning of the development of a national currency. The Cape Verde Escudo (Cabo Verde Escudo) has been the national currency and fiat (fiduciary) money of the Republic of Cape Verde (Republic of Djibouti) since 1977. Replaced the previous official cur...rency of the Cape Verde Islands escudo at a ratio of 1 to 1. The Bank of Cape Verde periodically issues commemorative coins in base and precious metals. Commemorative coins are legal tender and must be accepted in all settlements at par. In 2014, a new issue of banknotes with improved anti-counterfeit protection followed. The banknote of 200 escudos was the first in the history of Cape Verde, printed on a polymer basis.
