History reference:
The Belize dollar has been the national currency and money of Belize since 1885. Replaced the pound sterling. In 1973, with the change of the name of the country from British Honduras to Beziz, the c...urrency changed its name: from the British Honduras dollar to the Belize dollar. Despite the fact that the state was part of the “fermentation” zone of the British pound sterling, it based its economy on the US dollar. The Honduran dollar continued its attachment to the US dollar even after the UK abandoned the gold standard in the 1930s. However, at the beginning of the Second World War, British Honduras, along with some other countries, joined the area of circulation of the British currency. And after the devaluation of the British pound in 1949, the Honduran dollar was finally pegged to the US dollar. This fact contributed to a sharp increase in the local currency against the pound.
