History reference:
The currency, named after Christopher Columbus or, in the Spanish manner, Cristobal Colon, came out with a content of 0.7002 grams of pure gold in October 1896. The Costa Rican colón was adopted as the national currency in 1896, about 70 years after Costa Rica and its Central American neighbors declared independence from Spain. The Bahamian dollar has been the national currency and money of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas since 1966. At the same time, a transition was made to the decimal system - the Bahamian dollar began to equal 100 cents. During the transition to a new currency, three-dollar bills and coins of fifteen cents were introduced, since three dollars are approximately equal to one pound, and fifteen cents - 1 shilling, which was convenient during the transition period.
