History reference:
The currency, named after Christopher Columbus or, in the Spanish manner, Cristobal Colon, came out with a content of 0.7002 grams of pure gold in October 1896. The colon replaced the Costa Rican pes...o and was parity with the US dollar at 2.15:1. The Costa Rican colón was adopted as the national currency in 1896, about 70 years after Costa Rica and its Central American neighbors declared independence from Spain. Colón replaced the Costa Rican peso with a one-to-one exchange rate. The former currency of the peso, a legacy of the colonial era, was divided into eight Spanish reais.

History reference:
The Cedi is the currency of Ghana, introduced on July 19, 1965, issued by the Bank of Ghana. The name "cedi" comes from the Ashanti language and means "dear" in translation.
