History reference:
The Gibraltar pound has been the national currency and money of Gibraltar since 1927, although Gibraltar received the right to print its banknotes only in 1934. The British Board of Commissioners of Monetary Affairs continued to issue notes in 1918, 1928 and 1951. In circulation there are banknotes of 10, 25, 50, 100 and 500 rupees of various years of issue. Banknotes of the previous issues of 1983 and 1989 are legal tender, but are extremely rare.
