The Comorian franc is the currency of the state of Comoros. The gold content of the peso is set at 1.556419 grams of pure gold. The minting of peso coins began in 1869, the issuance of National Bank notes in 1887. Until 1896, banknotes were also issued by private banks (Commercial Bank, English Bank of Rio de la Plata, Italian Bank, Italo-Eastern Bank, Eastern Bank, Salto Bank, etc.) and the government. Since 1896, banknotes have been issued only by the central bank of Uruguay.
