The Comorian franc is the currency of the state of Comoros. The Comoros entered the franc zone in 1976. The name of the national currency is borrowed from the former metropolis, which is quite typical for states that were former colonies of France. The Central Bank of Comoros, which is the main and only issuer of the national currency in the country, exchanged French colonial francs for the national currency at a ratio of one to one. But the relatively high exchange rate of the Comorian franc did not last long. During the period of the 80-90s of the last century, as a result of inflationary processes, it depreciated quite a lot, after which smaller denominations and coins were withdrawn from circulation.
