History reference:
The Cayman Islands dollar was introduced on May 1, 1972, replacing the Jamaican dollar (which remained legal tender until August 31, 1972). Between 1938 and 1949, the government of Barbados issued paper banknotes in dollars. The last private bank notes were issued in 1949. British pound sterling coins were replaced with new coins in 1955. In 1965, the East Caribbean dollar replaced the British West Indies dollar in Barbados.
