History reference:
Afghani is the official currency of Afghanistan. The currency has a long history and was introduced in 1926. Then it looked like a coin made of 900 silver and contained 10 g of pure silver. Afghanistans first own banknotes appeared only in 1935, when they were issued by the National Afghan Bank. During the period of anarchy, warlords and other political movements used their own Afghanis. Until 2002, there were two types of Afghani in circulation: “pressure”, issued by the central government and “dostumi”, issued by order of General Dostum in the territory under his control.
