The national currency of Anguilla is the East Caribbean dollar. Since 1982, a new series of coins has been in circulation in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 cents and 1 dollar. Coins from 1 to 5 cen...ts were polyhedral, and a coin of 2 cents was square in shape. They were all made of aluminum alloy. But 10 and 25 cent coins were round, and made of copper-nickel alloy. The dollar was also round, but made of an aluminum bronze alloy. In 1989, the one dollar coin became multifaceted from a round shape and now from a copper-nickel alloy, changing its color from yellow to silver. Since 2002, new exclusively round 1, 2 and 5 cent coins have entered circulation, as well as a new $1 coin, which is now also round. Since 2009, 10.25 cents and 1 dollar coins have been minted from Akmonital alloy. The 1 and 2 cent coins were withdrawn from circulation in July 2015 and were legal tender until June 30, 2020.
