The Mauritian rupee is the national currency of the Republic of Mauritius. In 1968, the Bank of Mauritius carried out a monetary reform and replaced the old banknotes with new ones. Further inflation processes led to the fact that the Bank of Mauritius was forced to issue banknotes of higher denominations.
