History reference:
The Mozambican metical has been the national currency and money of the Republic of Mozambique since 1980, after gaining independence from Portugal in 1875. History reference:
The Congolese franc has been the national currency and money of the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 1911 (from 1967 to 1997 in the country, in connection with the renaming of the country to Za...ire, it was renamed the new Zaire). The old name and country and money returned in 1997. In 1998, the Congolese franc was again declared the monetary unit, replacing the new zaire in the ratio: franc = 100,000 new zaire. The Bank of Zaire is renamed the Central Bank of the Congo. Banknotes of the 1997 sample were put into circulation.
