History reference:
The Peruvian Sol is the national currency of the Republic of Peru. Sol was introduced on February 14, 1863 as a result of a monetary reform to replace the old Spanish monetary system with a new natio...nal Peruvian one. Prior to that, from 1858 to 1863, Republican Peru issued denominations in reals, centavos and escudos. A decimal system was introduced, 1 new sol was equal to 10 old reais.
