History reference:
The Philippine peso is the national currency of the Philippines. In 1898, the country experienced a revolution and issued its own coins and paper money backed by the countrys resources. The US took control of the Philippines and launched a currency that was pegged to the price of gold, which at the time was about half the value of the United States dollar (USD). The peg of £2 to the dollar continued until the country became independent in 1946. Monetary policy in the Philippines is conducted by the Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP), established on July 3, 1993 as the central bank. The Cape Verde Escudo (Cabo Verde Escudo) has been the national currency and fiat (fiduciary) money of the Republic of Cape Verde (Republic of Djibouti) since 1977. Replaced the previous official cur...rency of the Cape Verde Islands escudo at a ratio of 1 to 1. The Bank of Cape Verde periodically issues commemorative coins in base and precious metals. Commemorative coins are legal tender and must be accepted in all settlements at par. In 2014, a new issue of banknotes with improved anti-counterfeit protection followed. The banknote of 200 escudos was the first in the history of Cape Verde, printed on a polymer basis.
