The Bahamian dollar has been the national currency and money of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas since 1966. At the same time, a transition was made to the decimal system - the Bahamian dollar began to equal 100 cents. During the transition to a new currency, three-dollar bills and coins of fifteen cents were introduced, since three dollars are approximately equal to one pound, and fifteen cents - 1 shilling, which was convenient during the transition period.
