History reference:
The Paraguayan Guarani (Guarani) has been the national currency and money of the Republic of Paraguay since 1944. The name Guarani comes from the eponymous group of Indian peoples living in Paraguay and partly in neighboring states. The origin of the word "Guarani" is still controversial. The term was used by the first Jesuit missionaries to name the Indians who converted to Catholicism. The rights of the emission center belong to the Central Bank of Paraguay, founded in 1952.
