History reference:
Manat is the monetary unit (national currency) of Turkmenistan. The manat was put into circulation on November 1, 1993. Until that time, since the declaration of independence, Soviet and Russian rubl...es were in circulation in Turkmenistan as a means of payment. The exchange of rubles for manats was carried out in the ratio: 1 manat = 500 rubles, maximum one adult citizen of Turkmenistan could receive up to 60 manats.
