History reference:
The Tongan paanga or Tongan dollar or Tongan dollar has been the national currency and money of the Kingdom of Tonga since 1967. Initially pegged to the Australian dollar, it has since 1991 been pegg...ed to a basket of currencies: the Australian and New Zealand dollars, the US dollar and the Japanese yen. Paanga was introduced on April 3, 1967. He replaced the pound at the rate of 1 pound = 2 paang. Until 11 February 1991, the paanga was pegged to the Australian dollar at par. Since then, a basket of currencies has been taken (see above) and the paanga has steadily declined. As in 2006, it takes about 1.60 T$ to get 1 Australian dollar. Official exchange rates are published daily by the National Reserve Bank, established on July 1, 1989, but towards the end of the day rather than early in the morning.

History reference:
CLP in the foreign exchange markets stands for the abbreviation for Chiles currency, known as the Chilean peso. The "old" peso was used as the currency in Chile between 1917 and 1959, when the escudo... (CLE) came into effect. The current (or new) Chilean peso was reintroduced on September 29, 1975, replacing the escudo with an exchange of 1 peso for 1,000 escudos. The Chilean people also refer to their currency as "lukoi" when referring to the 1,000 peso note, "quina" for the 500 peso coin, and "gamba" for the 100 peso coin. On September 29, 1975, instead of the escudo, the peso was reintroduced, the escudos were exchanged for 1000:1 pesos. During the years of the dictatorship, on the obverse of the 5 and 10 peso coins, the image of a winged woman breaking the chains was used, with the signature LIBERTAD (freedom) and the date of the military coup 9/11/1973 - the figure symbolized "liberation from Marxism". After the restoration of civil power in Chile, the design of the coins was changed, the image of the national hero Bernardo OHiggins was placed on the obverse.
