The French Pacific franc is the currency used in Frances overseas possessions: New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna. The international currency code is XPF, introduced in 1945. The issue of currency is carried out by the Issuing Institute of Overseas Territories of France. When it was introduced in December 1945 (the CFA franc was introduced at the same time), the abbreviation CFP consisted of the initial letters of the French words Colonies françaises du Pacifique (Pacific French colonies). Since 1967, the monetary unit has been called the "franc of the French offices in the Pacific" (from Comptoirs françaises du Pacifique - French offices in the Pacific).
