History reference:
Bolivar is first a minor (in 1871-1879), and then the main (from 1879 to 2018) monetary unit of Venezuela. Bolívar is named after Latin American independence hero Simón Bolívar. History reference:
The rial was the currency of Persia from 1798 to 1825 and of Iran since 1932. The rial first became the derivative currency of Iran (at that time Persia) in 1798.
