The Vietnamese dong has been the national currency of the united Vietnam since 1978 and has been on the forex market to this day. But the piaster was used in parallel with the dong in North Vietnam until November 1954. South Vietnam on September 22, 1955 announced the cessation of the use of piastre as a currency and, a month later, on October 15, the issue of banknotes of the National Bank of Vietnam in dongs began.
