History reference:
The Liberian dollar is the national currency of the Republic of Liberia. For the first time, the Liberian dollar appeared in the form of coins, it was after the declaration of independence of Liberia..., in 1847. Ten years later, the first banknotes appeared, in 1880 their issue was discontinued, coins were minted until 1906. All the while, the US dollar continued to play the role of a parallel legal tender. In 1907, it was replaced by the pound sterling and then the West African pound. During the civil war of 1989-1996, there were actually two zones of monetary circulation: one controlled by the government and the rebels. The rebels used banknotes issued before the start of the war
