The Belize dollar has been the national currency and money of Belize since 1885. Replaced the pound sterling. However, at the beginning of the Second World War, British Honduras, along with some other countries, joined the area of circulation of the British currency. And after the devaluation of the British pound in 1949, the Honduran dollar was finally pegged to the US dollar. This fact contributed to a sharp increase in the local currency against the pound. For many years, the exchange rate of the Belize dollar to the US dollar has been at the same mark, equal to 2:1, respectively.
