The Ugandan shilling is the currency of Uganda. The total area of Uganda exceeds 236 thousand square kilometers. The Ugandan shilling was introduced on 15 August 1966 to replace the East African shilling issued by the East African Monetary Authority for Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika and Zanzibar. With the release of the national currency, the exchange of East African shillings 1: 1 for it and their gradual withdrawal from circulation began. From October 21 to October 29, 1979, the government carried out the first currency denomination. Due to high inflation, on May 18, 1987, another monetary reform was carried out, as a result of which a new Ugandan shilling was introduced at an exchange rate of 100: 1. But even this currency was already replaced in 2004 by the currency with the original name - the Ugandan shilling, which, due to the instability of the countrys economy, produces ever higher denominations.
